Local students are being highlighted by The Arizona Daily Star’s Student of the Week program.
The Star honors students from kindergarten through grade 12 who are active in or out of school.
“We really enjoy highlighting the accomplishments of K-12 students in the community,”said Leslie Anne Newell, assistant city editor and head of the program. “So often, the news focuses on negative events and young adults who are making bad decisions. It's nice to let readers know that there are many students out there who are making positive, meaningful contributions to society.”
To nominate a student, go to http://azstarnet.com/sn/studentoftheweek and fill out the nominator’s form. There is also a student’s form that must be filled out by the student. A student is featured weekly through the school year, including over Christmas break. The sooner the student is nominated, the longer the program has to consider the student for the feature.
The Student of the Week will be featured in a story in the Arizona Daily Star and will receive a certificate from the Pima County School Superintendent and a plaque donated by Tuller Trophy.
“The folks at Tuller Trophy have been nice enough to volunteer to do this for several years and the plaques have meant a lot to the students," Newell said.
