South side libraries offer much more than the latest novels, movies and music. From Skype classes to homework help to help finding a job, your local library has so much to offer. Here is a look at ongoing and upcoming events.
Tutors are available at libraries in south side Tucson to offer help to students of all ages with homework. Homework Help is available online but users must have a library card.
Tutoring is also available over the phone at 791-4010, Monday through Thursday, 4 to 6 p.m. (in Spanish on Sundays 1 to 4 p.m.) Hours vary so visit www.library.pima.gov/services/homework for tutoring times.
English language classes are offered at all the listed libraries except Sam Lena-South Tucson. The Literacy Volunteers of Tucson offers this free program to adults who want to learn to read, write and speak English. These popular classes may have waiting lists. Visit www.library.pima.gov to register for a course.
Quincie Douglas Branch Library and Mission Library offers a chance for parents to get involved in their preschooler, toddler or baby storytelling time. These story times are offered to children of certain ages but bilingual story time is offered to all ages.
Mission Library and Sam Lena-South Tucson Library offer free citizenship classes. Offered by Pima Community College Adult Education, this class teaches adults about the U.S. government and U.S. history.
The class helps prepare students for the Citizenship Exam. Students may register and begin classes anytime during the session. Visit www.library.pima.gov to register and for class dates and times.
