Hatha Yoga:
A combination of slow to moderate paced physical postures, breathing and meditation exercises. Yoga has been shown to reduce stress, improve flexibility and increase range of movement while reducing aches and pains. It helps heighten self awareness, improve concentration, coordination and memory, while encouraging relaxation for a peaceful mind. Must bring your own mat to class. T’ai Chi Chih

Tucson Off-Leash Dog Areas

The City of Tucson operates and maintains 6 different off-leash dog areas for owners to bring their pets to socialize and roam freely.

What to expect: At off-leash dog areas owners will find a fenced in public area that will allow for their pet to run freely and socialize with other dogs. Depending on the location owners will find sections for large and small dogs.  In addition, some locations also include dog training areas. Amenities differ by location, but all are free of charge.

Important: all owners are expected to follow posted regulations at each site and maintain control of their pet at all times.

Description
: 38,000-square ft. area with gravel surface. Features both a small and large dog fenced in areas that are lighted after dark. Also includes picnic tables, trash cans, double entry gates for each side, dog friendly drinking fountains, and a scooper dispenser.

Reid Park- Miko’s Corner Playground, Central, Country Club and 22nd Street—use Picnic Place or Concert Place entrances off Country Club.

Description
: A two-acre fenced in site for both large and small dogs. Features three double entry gates, large turf area, dog friendly water fountains, scooper dispensers, and ramada with tables. The park was named after Miko, a TPD police dog that lost his life in the line of duty.

Description
: A one-acre site with turf, seating area, trash cans, and dog friendly water fountains.

Rules and Regulations:

  1. Owners are responsible for the actions of their dogs.
  2. Open only one gate at a time when entering or leaving facility.
  3. Children under the age of 10 must have adult supervision and cannot be left unattended.
  4. Dog owners must stay in the off-leash area within view of their dogs and have a leash within reach at all times.
  5. All dogs must wear collars with a current Pima County license and must be up-to-date on all vaccinations.
  6. All dogs must be leashed outside the boundaries of the off-leash area, including to and from the parking area.
  7. Aggressive dogs are not permitted within the off-leash premises.
  8. Dogs must be removed from the off-leash area at the first sign of aggression.
  9. A dog that is in season or ill is not permitted in the off-leash area.
  10. Dog waste must be cleaned up immediately by owner.
  11. Dogs must be under voice control – they should be able to obey owner voice commands.
  12. Puppies under the age of four months are prohibited from using off-leash areas.
  13. Owners are responsible for filling any holes their dogs may dig

ForKids

Pickup your free Make a Splash—READ! game board at any library, and use it to keep track of how many hours you read. Or log your hours online.

- For every six hours you read, you earn prizes

- All who read 24 hours by July 18 will receive a reading certificate and an Adventure Pass which includes a ticket for four people to the Tucson Toros' baseball finale at Hi Corbett Field on Sunday, July 25.

Summer Employment in Recreation

Junior Lifeguarding

Children ages 10-12 gain knowledge of water safety, emergency recognition and basic rescue skills, while improving swimming skills and over viewing CPR skills.


Registration is through City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Class Registration (791-4877).

Employment and Lifeguard Training

Tucson Parks and Recreation Aquatics employs approximately 300 lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, and Pool Supervisors each year to work at our 27 swimming pools located throughout Tucson. Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor classes conducted at selected City of Tucson pools certify many of these lifeguards and instructors as well as lifeguards and instructors seeking employment elsewhere. Lifeguard - $9.03
Water Safety Instructor - $9.53
Pool Supervisor - $10.26

Required Certifications:

Lifeguard Training
Prerequisites:
• American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
• First Aid Basics certification
• 15 years of age (16 to work for City of Tucson Aquatics)
• Swim 300 yards with at least 100 yards of breaststroke and front crawl.
• Swim 20 yards and retrieve a 10-pound. brick from 7 to 10 feet of water.
Water Safety Instructor (to teach swimming lessons)

• Stroke proficiency demonstration at first class
• Front crawl (freestyle)
• Back crawl (competitive backstroke)

Summer Programs at Tucson Pools

Children's Swimming Lessons

American Red Cross swimming lessons are offered at all City of Tucson pools with the exception of Catalina Wading Pool. Lessons are typically offered in four two-week sessions on weekday mornings 9-11 a.m., and evenings 5-6 p.m., with schedules varying from pool to pool. Classes are scheduled in response to demand, with an emphasis on classes for the youngest children. Registration is conducted at each pool by lottery.

Competitive Swim Team

An introductory competitive swimming program is offered at designated pools for swimmers ages 4 through 17. Swimmers learn competitive strokes and techniques in daily practices and participate in a series of evening swim meets, culminating in a championship meet in July.

Synchronized Swimming

A competitive synchronized swim team program is offered at designated pools for beginning and intermediate level synchronized swimmers. Swimmers learn synchronized swimming skills in daily practices and prepare a routine for competition in a citywide meet in July. Participants must have basic water skills such as basic swimming strokes and breath control.

Diving Lessons

Basic techniques of competitive springboard diving are taught at designated pools to children age 12 and older. Children learn the basic diving positions and the safe use of the diving board.

Adaptive Swim Lessons

Beginning through advanced swimming lessons are available at specified pools for individuals with special needs. A physician's prescription describing the disability, physical limitations (if any), and rehabilitative goals for each participant is required.
Registration for Adaptive Swim Lessons is conducted at the swimming pools hosting the program. The Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center (791-5643) conducts a year-round program of adaptive aquatics for all ages and disabilities.

Adult Swim Lessons

Beginning swim lessons for adults are held at selected pools.

Inner tube Water Polo

Recreational inner tube water polo for children, adults and families provides friendly competition at selected pools. To participate, children should be at least 4 feet 10 inches tall, and some swimming skills are required.

Summer Aquathlon Series

Friendly competition consisting of an 800-yard swim and a 3-mile run, held at the Randolph Pool in the evenings. All ability levels are welcome. Available for ages 12 and up. A championship competition is held at the end of the season in July.

Aquatic Sports Adventure

Inner tube water polo, boating skills, water safety and an introduction to scuba diving are just a few of the activities available to children ages 10-12.
