Affordable Housing Unit Proposed for Downtown

E-mail Print PDF

The Primavera Foundation and the Downtown Tucson Partnership are joining together to build an affordable housing project.

Downtown Tucson Partnership, a corporation that seeks to improve business in downtown Tucson, and Primavera are hoping to purchase 1.6 acres of land owned by the city off of Granada Avenue, between St. Mary’s Road and Congress Street. The groups are asking the city to sell the land below market value price plan so they can build 25 affordable housing units.

If the land is purchased, the two groups can solicit contributions or grants from the city to help with construction.

Downtown Tucson Partnership said it would take about one year to build the housing units and would cost about $3 million.

The Tucson City Council must approve the sale of land for any deal to go through.
